WHY? What is the point?

What is the point?

By this I mean; why do you want to make a change? Why do you want to achieve a specific goal? What is your reason for doing what you do?

The answers to these questions will come in all shapes and sizes depending on who you are, what your goals are and what you’re currently doing to get there. It is not a one size fits all answer.

But we do all need to answer these questions as without taking the time to figure out what the point is we won’t find the drive and motivation to achieve our goal.

  • First of start by visualising your goal.

what is your goalIs it to feel fantastic in a specific outfit? To complete a 5k? To get that promotion? To buy your own house? To finish a painting? To learn to cook Thai food? To start every day with a little bit of yoga and a hot lemon water…?

Whatever it is, no matter how big or how small it might seem – Visualise it. Really see it in the front of your mind. Imagine you have it. You’ve got there. It’s yours.

  • How does this make you feel?

Savour that feeling. Let it wash all over you. Let it find its way into every nook and cranny. Really feel it.


  • Now put pen to paper.

Now you’re clear what your goal is and what it would feel like to achieve it… write it down. Write it down so you can see it in black and white. Maybe even accompany it with a picture. And put it somewhere you will see it regularly.

On your mirror…in your purse… on your fridge… wherever you’ll see it on a regular basis. You could even create a vision board for your goals (see a later blog for vision board inspo).

  • Next map out the plan to achieve the goal.ingredients.png

Make a strategy; what are the stages you need to go through to achieve your goal? Organise and prioritise. Be clear with your plan; have definitive stages. Treat it like a recipe… you need all the right ingredients to bake the perfect cake.

We’re nearly ready to put the plan into action but first…

  • What is the point? What is your WHY?

This is where we get down to the nitty gritty of it. This is what will help make the dream a reality.

Why do you want to achieve this goal?

Will it give you more freedom? Will it allow you to stick it to the people that thought you couldn’t? Are you doing it for your children? So your parents can retire comfortably? So you can look in the mirror and be proud of the person looking back? What is your reason WHY?

  • Now repeat the above stages but with your WHY.

Visualise your WHY. Feel it. Write it down. Illustrate it. Add it to each stage of your plan.

  • Finally it’s time to put the plan into motion.

Follow through the stages of your plan. Keep reminding yourself of your goal and most importantly your WHY. 

Goal + wy.pngWhenever you’re feeling defeated, like you’re getting nowhere and you find yourself asking “what is the point?!” – You already have the answer. Remind yourself what the plan is for. Why it was created. What it will achieve. And how you will feel once you’re there.

Keep your WHY at the forefront of your mind and you’ll get there. Use it to motivate you, to give you your drive – especially on the days you want to pack it all in and forget about your goal.

Make sure you’re honest with yourself however, your WHY needs to be true and it needs to be strong. No one needs to know your WHY other than you, so be honest – really honest. If your WHY isn’t strong enough it wont drive you – so really do some searching to discover your true WHY.

Now ask yourself….

Why? What is the point?
