Love or Hate: A life Sentence.

You’re floating towards a white light. The glow is heating up your skin. You feel free, you feel light. Nothing is going to wipe the beaming smile off your face… but then… you glance down and see your body. It’s lifeless. You’re leaving it behind; never to see it again. How does this make you feel?

Are you happy? That you lived a full life full of wonderful memories that you’ll take with you. Understanding it’s your time.

Are you relieved? To be finally free of that prison and the life that scarred it. Thankful that your time has arrived.

Are you sad? That you don’t have anymore chances to right your wrongs, to take the opportunities that were given to you, or to feel love for the body that was your home. Wishing you could have a bit more time to do things differently.

You’ve got one chance; one opportunity to live this life. Whether you believe in the afterlife, reincarnation, or simply believe once your heart stops beating that’s it, that’s you done forever; you still only get the one shot at this life.

So how are you going to live it?
Live A Life

Now, you may only get to live this life once but you do get moments, every single second of every single day, to make choices on how you want it to play out. You are the author of your own story and be it a comedy, a drama or a thriller, you should at least make it an EPIC. Write your own story

Sure, you’ll have ‘collaborators‘ and ‘editors‘ that might try and steer the story a particular direction, or give their many opinions on the choices your making but ultimately, you hold the pen… or the typewriter… or the laptop… or even the quill; as again it is up to you how your story is written. You may even choose to alternate between the laptop and the quill… the choice is yours.

What I am trying to say, in a very weird round about way, is that you are ultimately in charge of your own happiness. People will influence moments of your life but they cannot define who you are or where you will finally end up.

So grab life by the balls and go for it!

Be the captain of your own ship and sail the seven seas, discovering uncharted destinations until you find your own piece of paradise….

(….sorry more random metaphors… I can’t help myself…. but bare with me… there is method in the madness I promise…)

Just do yourself one favour; don’t settle for who you feel you should be and for the life you feel you should live.

Yes we are all born into our own unique circumstances, with our own messed up issues that no one else can understand ((except there is always people who can)), and almost get trapped in a box of what society deems to be the right box for us. But SCREW THAT!SCREW THEM ALL!!

As I’ve already stated; you only get one life as YOU so why waste it being someone different? Why waste it trying to be someone that society deems ‘idealistic’ or even just who they say you should be due to your circumstances?

Can I let you into a secret?… Perfection isn’t real. *Pause for dramatic gasp*

It’s a made up concept. It’s a tool companies use to make money, a word people manipulate others with to make themselves feel less alone in ‘failure’. It’s also a complete contradiction; as you can only achieve ‘perfection’ by accepting and loving the imperfections… and therefore ‘true perfection’ cannot exist, can it?!

Once you accept that you will never be ‘perfect’ you can start to focus on being happy. Unapologetically happy. Happy with who you are and with the life you live. After all you are stuck with yourself for the rest of your life, whether you like it or not; so you might as well love it right? And the only way to do that is to learn to LOVE YOURSELF.

Self-love has many connotations; some good, some bad, but until you learn to truly love who you are you can’t live an authentically happy life.

So start taking charge of your happiness and choose Love as your life sentence.
